Overview

GLC-SX-MMD complies with IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-SX. Reach depends on the fibre: 220 m on FDDI-grade 62.5 µm, 275 m on OM1, 550 m on OM2 and 1,000 m on laser-optimised OM3, OM4 and OM5. It uses a duplex LC/PC connector and works in any Cisco Gigabit SFP port listed in the compatibility tables.

The D suffix marks the DOM version, reporting optical power, temperature, laser bias and voltage to the host to SFF-8472. It is rated for the extended temperature range of -5 to 85°C.

Typical uses

  • Access to distribution uplinks in a building
  • Server and storage Gigabit links
  • Firewall and router fibre handoffs

Edition and part numbers

Cisco rates the older GLC-SX-MM for the commercial range, while GLC-SX-MMD is rated for the extended range. GLC-SX-MM-RGD is the industrial rated version for -40 to 85°C, and SFP-1G-SX is a separate part that only works in 10G capable ports.

Questions about the GLC-SX-MMD

How far will it run?
550 m on OM2, 275 m on OM1, 220 m on FDDI-grade 62.5 µm fibre and up to 1 km on OM3, OM4 or OM5.
Will it link with an older GLC-SX-MM?
Yes. Both are 1000BASE-SX modules to IEEE 802.3z, so they interoperate over the same multimode fibre.
How quickly can you confirm availability?
Listed availability shows when supply was last verified. For other quantities or destinations, send a request and we confirm supply and price in writing.
