RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell: Server vs Workstation vs Max-Q

Updated 16 October 2026

By the Lineage Tech sourcing desk

Short answer. All three RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell editions have 96 GB of GDDR7 ECC memory. The Server Edition (900-2G153-0000-000) is passive and goes in rack servers. The Workstation Edition (900-5G144-2500-000) is a 600 W fan-cooled card for single-GPU towers. The Max-Q Workstation Edition (900-5G153-2500-000) is a 300 W blower card for workstations with up to four GPUs.

Why the cooling decides it

The Server Edition has no fan. It depends on the high static-pressure airflow that server chassis push from front to back. In a desktop it will throttle or overheat. The Workstation Edition does the opposite: its fans blow through the card and exhaust heat into the case, which is fine for one card and a problem for four. The Max-Q edition uses a blower that pushes heat out of the rear bracket, so several cards can sit next to each other.

Performance differences

NVIDIA rates the Workstation Edition at 4,000 AI TOPS (FP4 with sparsity) and the Max-Q at 3,511 AI TOPS, the gap coming from the lower power limit. The Server Edition lists 120 TFLOPS FP32 and 4 PFLOPS FP4, with lower memory bandwidth than the desktop cards, but adds confidential computing and secure boot with a hardware root of trust.

Part number pitfalls

  • Distributors also list 900-5G144-2200-000 for the Workstation Edition and 900-5G153-2200-000 for Max-Q. Confirm which number your supplier is quoting and that it matches the edition you need.
  • OEM versions have their own numbers. Lenovo, for example, lists its Server Edition card under NVIDIA part 900-2G153-2700-030. These can carry OEM firmware and warranty terms.
  • Never accept a substitution between editions without written approval. Same name, different product.

Lineage Tech keys every listing and order line to the manufacturer part number and does not substitute editions without your written approval.
