The Juniper MX204-HW-BASE is the base bundle of the MX204 Universal Routing Platform: a 1RU fixed router with 400 Gbps of capacity, four rate-selectable 100GbE/40GbE QSFP28 ports, eight 10GbE SFP+ ports, two power supplies and three fan trays. Juniper describes it as an integrated SKU with base hardware and standard Junos software on a perpetual basis. It is built for service provider edge, metro, data centre and cloud edge, and broadband network gateway roles.

Overview
The MX204 is the most compact member of the MX Series. It packs 400 Gbps of throughput into a single rack unit at about 0.9 W per Gb, with a built-in Routing Engine and Packet Forwarding Engine. The four QSFP28 ports run at 100GbE or 40GbE, or split into four 10GbE ports each with breakout cables, and the eight SFP+ ports carry 10GbE.
It runs the same Junos OS as larger MX routers, so it fits peering and transit edges, metro aggregation, data centre interconnect and enterprise WAN edges where full routing and MX feature parity matter but rack space and power are tight. Power supplies, fan trays and optics are field replaceable.
Licensing: MX204-HW-BASE includes standard Junos software, perpetual. Juniper Flex Advanced (S-MX-4C-A1 series) and Premium (S-MX-4C-P1 series) licences add higher-tier features as 3-year or 5-year subscriptions or as perpetual licences. Juniper's support site lists an end of life announcement for MX204-HW-BASE dated 15 June 2026, with a last order date of 15 June 2027 and end of support on 30 June 2032.

Edition and part numbers
MX204-HW-BASE is the integrated bundle with standard Junos, perpetual. MX204-HWBASE-AC-FS and MX204-HWBASE-DC-FS are the same chassis with two power supplies and three fan trays where the feature right to use is ordered separately. JNP204-CHAS is a spare chassis only.
